I haven’t been writing in my diary as often
as I should so to recap:
I have been working Jackson in the bosal
again. I didn’t like how it was going,
riding Jackson in a bit. We have been
working on speed changes at the canter,
lighter half passes at the walk and trot, as
well as various other maneuvers such as
sidepassing, backing, jousting, etc.
Here is a
video from a couple of days ago.

Today I was very happy with how he did. We
did three small jumps, which Jackson jumps
just fine. I am the one who has the trouble.
Jackson must hate my flopping around. I am
trying to get a good 2 point, but it is
sadly lacking.
Jackson’s canter was nice today. I think he
is getting stronger. I think we almost had a
flying lead change! I worked briefly on
getting a soft passage. Not a big one like I
had done before, but a lower, softer one. I
encouraged him to have his head lower and to
not lean on the bosal, but to have a more
natural passage. I think it was better. If
you compare my previous videos with this
one, he is stepping much farther with his
hind legs than before. It also seems to have
a little more impulsion.
We also did some side passing right angle
poles; he did great! Some ring jousting at
the trot and canter. He was fine, but I
struggled with getting the ring at the
canter. It doesn’t help when the ring is
swinging and not facing me!
We did some leg yields and half passes at
the walk and trot. He is getting lighter and
much better at both of them.
And we even got a video of some of it!
