I worked Jackson and Sadeem separately
today. I wanted to work on more liberty
stuff with Jackson and wanted to focus on
Sadeem a little more. It was pretty good.
Sadeem
I worked Sadeem for about 10 minutes. We
just did it in the yard. I worked on
Ramener. He is getting the idea of tucking
his nose in, but it is very ungainly. I am
sure that as we work at it, it will get
better. I also worked on basic things like
back up with really light pressure on his
chest and moving the haunches away. He knows
those pretty well.
I also started teaching him to park out. He
knows Jambette, but he doesn’t know how to
keep his feet out front. We only spent a
couple of minutes on it. There wasn’t much
progress today, but perhaps tomorrow we will
see if he remembered it or not.
I also worked on Sadeem’s rear. It is
amazing how different Sadeem’s rear is from
Jackson’s! As you see in the videos, Jackson
just throws his head up to rear, but that is
not what Sadeem does. He seems to balance
over his haunches and just lift up his front
end! Like a mini lavade! As a result, he
holds if for about second or so. It is very
cool to see his rear. Now I know what to
look for while teaching Jackson to rear like
that.
Jackson
I worked Jackson for about 45 minutes. We
worked on a little bit of rearing. I was
trying to get him to rear a little lower and
hold it. We worked on the pose and more
Ramener. His lunging is getting better and
better. Today we were working on transitions
from Ramener while trotting to long and low
while trotting. He was really getting it.
And later, when he was loping around the
pasture, he lowered his head for a few
strides; it looked pretty nice.
He had some nice steps of the passage. I
wasn’t asking for much, but he likes to
offer it sometimes. We did some “run with
me” and had fun with that. I had him run
away from me and then come back to me. He is
really getting better at that. He laid down
a couple of times. He offered some very nice
obeisances. He also offered a bow once.
Then we walked out to get the mail. It is so
cool that Jackson offers to stay with me
rather than exploring or wandering away! I
am loving that part of our relationship!
We also did a couple of quick practices of
“stay”.
