Jackson

Session 1: I worked Jackson for about an hour. I worked more lunging and communicating while lunging. Jackson is starting to get it. He will usually slow down on cue while lunging to the left. Going to the right, he doesn’t do as well. He slowly pulls away and doesn’t seem to want to slow down on cue. We will just keep working on it.

Jackson is getting a little better at doing the obeisance on cue. He still likes to bow and lay down on his own. He sat on the pile of snow again, on cue.

Session 2: I tacked Jackson up with saddle and bosal. I warmed him up by lunging him with the cordeo. I rode him at the walk and worked on turning with really light cues. He did pretty well with that. I am using a clicker while riding. I did a little work on the half pass at the walk.

I did a little work at the trot. Mostly asked him to relax and worked on turning and stopping. He did pretty well. I am mostly focusing on the canter right now as that is where I have had lots of problems before. Once the canter is a little better, I will come back and do more work at the walk and trot.

He canter much nicer today. It was slower and more controlled. He does better going to the right than to the left. I am working on slowing his canter down and being able to turn with just my body cues.

He was doing much better today so I decided to ask for a step or two of the half pass at the canter. He did it! He did a small half pass in both directions at the canter! That is so cool. We won’t practice if much until I know he is stronger, but still very fun!
