I worked with Jackson for about 30 minutes.
It was snowing and very windy. I am amazed
how much more focused on me Jackson is.
Yesterday, I put him and another horse in a
pasture and Jackson ignored the other horse
and stayed right with me, even though he
normally isn’t in with that horse. Also, I
didn’t use a whip or any other tack.
I worked a lot on companion walking. We did
more side passing with me. He really learned
that one. He was doing really well at. So
well, in fact, that I need to go back and
teach him to side pass away from me. He
keeps wanting to side pass into me. I was
trying to do what Romy does and freeze when
he is too pushy. I think that helped a
little bit.
So then I worked on side passing away and he
seemed to learn that pretty quickly. I am
hoping to get a video of it tomorrow.
We also did a bit of free lunging. I almost
can’t believe the progress that he has made
at that. He consistently makes nice circles
around me at the walk, trot, and canter. I
can also get him to stop and come into me
right away. I am going to work on speed
control and being able to change directions
easily.
It was a lot of fun, even though it was
nasty out.
